It seems there are BYU-friendly media types that like Drew and think he's just doing his job. And perhaps he is. But that job doesn't seem to involve consistently balanced treatment of the team he covers.
There's a relevant story, and source, etc. so he runs it. Fine. Jay isn't dumb though and also understands that it's a very emotional family member spouting some things that don't add up. As has been pointed out on the board, there was already a suspension here with another dude not being able to play at all as a result of whatever happened. This would seem to beg a follow up question or two or some printed perspective about the nature of the claims.
Instead, Drew's "story" basically takes angry brother's twitter rant and prints it without scrutiny. It's essentially a TMZ piece. Might as well have headlined it, "Bernard's Baby Bro OWNS BYU with a single tweet..." or something similar. It's in the same general category of click bait with little-to-no substance.
I have a hard time thinking he and the Trib offer a story the same credence were the roles reversed, and an upset family member was railing on Utah and calling for a transfer to Provo. That's just a hypothetical, and perhaps I'm wrong. I just have a hard time, though I've tried, seeing Drew and The Trib's coverage of BYU as objective or fair.
