It would vary greatly depending on where the starting point is. There are semi

direct routes in east Houston, like US 90, that are open according to Google, if one can get to them, which would keep the drive closer to the original 6 hours. But if one can make it north to Huntsville, TX Google says it's about 8 hours to NO from downtown Houston.

There may be routes one can navigate through Houston to get to US 90, but I kept to main roads for my search.
