My new personal BYU football resolutions
1. I will watch all games, but not expect anything positive. That way if the game is bad, it's what I expected. But if something good happens, it's a pleasant surprise.

2. I will not engage in any speculation about who this year's BYU bowl game opponent will be because at this point I'd be shocked if they get to 6 wins.

3. I won't pay any attention to recruiting. No sense getting excited about the glowing remarks of coaches or the BYU media about 18-year-old kids, many that will be gone for 2 years on a mission anyway. Until I see something on the field, I'm not a believer about anything said about specific players.

4. I will not listen to any preseason hype. If I happen to hear some, I will simply reject it. No Taysom. No Jamaal. We should have known better than to expect this to be a good season. Those two covered a multitude of deficiencies. Now those deficiencies are exposed for everyone to see clearly. Yet the hype machine was in overdrive over the summer.

5. My only focus will be performance on the field. If BYU plays well I'll acknowledge it and enjoy it. But I won't believe even that means much until I see it consistently over the course of several games.

6. I won't expect BYU to ever get any kind of consistent pressure on opposing QBs.

7. I won't expect any BYU QB to ever complete a pass of more than 10 or 15 yards.

8. I won't expect BYU to win the turnover battle against any team this year.

9. When opponents have a 3rd-and-long on offense, I will always expect them to convert for a 1st down.

10. I won't expect anymore wins this year.
