January when they were saying "spring." I've seen very few talk about it the way you have. Maybe it would clear things up over time and repetitiously beating the concept into people, but it might be more confusing too. I'd bet most understand "spring" as the start of THIS semester, which includes spring football. "Spring ball" and the prep leading up to it all starts in January. Most everyone knows that and references it that way.
When people state spring, there must be a handful or less who actually mean May. Especially because most people aren't just referencing the semester, but spring BALL itself. After all, that's what this is all about. Spring football in March. Ain't nobody out there confusing people with May talk when spring ball would be over by then.

What you're saying would make sense and be used if we were only talking about school. But we're talking about college football, and nothing is going on in May.
