I have a BYU student job and I pay SS/Medicare taxes.
The funding for my job comes from research money given by a private organization. Does that affect things?

IIRC, BYU student jobs don't pay SS

You have it wrong. You now have to pay taxes on SS (Spousal Support) payments.

Not unless your agreement was in place prior to 2018
