People expected 10+ wins and BCS games in football and quickly tired of consistent 8-9 win seasons (with several top 25 finishes earlier on). Moving on from the "downward" trend only brought us to objectively worse results in every way. We have been .500 since making a move and now hope to limp in to bad bowl games. The bar lowered extremely quickly.
Rose is about as close to a LaVell Edwards we've had for basketball. An honor code violation away from a serious shot at a title, a top 7 win% active coach, and "down years" consisting of 19-24 wins, and owning the state. BYU will never be a team that can lose all conf players and take a step forward. He's become a victim of his own success, and while I think he needs to shoulder some blame for player continuity, there are absolutely no guarantees we will be better off with him gone. Football was in a similar situation and we have gotten worse in every objective way.
