I'm just going off the whole package. Elton has more popular stuff, and is one heck of an entertainer. I think song writer is a different category.

I feel like Elton John's prime era songs have aged better than Billy Joel's prime era. both were very good though.

It's not neck and neck, Joel's a great song writer, Elton didn't write songs.
