have seen one were the wife was quite good looking and the husband was not only ugly (physically and socially), but hefty too. It made no sense, until I found out that the relationship was abusive. Of course I don't know if that is the case here, but this kind of thing can happen. Abusive partners have to keep their spouse's self esteem low so they stay. So they often put down their souses appearance. Even when it is objectively untrue and doesn't make any sense. It sucks, but it happens.
