So what I'm reading from CC's post is that the 2018 defense wasn't any good

So since they were 18th in total defense, would they had to have been 1st in total defense to be any good that year, or would the FEI (which has some questionable methodologies and results, IMO) have ranked them 40th?

At what point exactly would BYU had to have been good on defense last year?
