The issue with larger group is that passes are issued on a "first come first serve" basis in terms of these order they are processed. If you have a larger party it will put you in the earliest available slot that will fit the ENTIRE party and there's potential it could cause you to be pushed to a later slot as a result whereas 2 smaller parties could fit in at 2 earlier spots. I'm guessing it ultimately depends on how important it is to ride together and if you're fine if some get on while some don't.
