Honeybees die in large volumes (in the summer they die in about 45 days - work themselves to death). I regularly have lots of dead ones on my deck in front of my hive boxes. The cardinals and other birds really like dropping down on the deck and catching a meal on dead bees. Sometimes I seem them swoop through the air across my deck to catch live ones too. There are a couple of very large, very fat lizards that scoot around chomping up the dead ones too.
The birds are definiitely fat. Smart. They don't have to work hard for their meals...
