When two of the OL are lined up wide, do the DL line up wide with them to take on the blocker?
It's easy to say they only rushed 2 - reality is that splitting out a pair of OL meant that the DL wasn't sure what they were doing either - and were sometimes lining up with the split out OL. So the effect was to only have a pair of DL even close enough to rush. But what's the consequence of having a pair of WR out wide behind a big OL blocker if you've only got one DB covering that side and the safety sitting deep and the DL doesn't slide out? So the DL would slide out too.
I understand it not being something they could adjust to mid-drive, because it required adjustments by multiple position groups to make sure everyone was covered.
Nice gimmick that got Texas State a TD, in the end. But not sustainable once the defense had a chance to get to the sideline and talk things through with coaches to adjust.
