Rogue's powers are to absorb someone's powers temporarily. Rogue was adopted as a child and raised by Mystique (yes, the blue shape-shifter), while fighting alongside her mother with the brotherhood of evil mutants, Rogue grabbed a hold of Captain Marvel and held her so long that she permanently took her powers as well as Danvers' psyche.
