Alice In Chains and Soundgarden had some metal influence. A lot of grunge did.
And some of those classics are great.
And the butt-rock stuff is fun and funny, but it's pop rock really.
I got into metal around age 15 and never really left it. It's an amazing genre with a million twists and turns and sub-genre sounds. Still innovating like crazy today. Probably the most "alive" form of guitar based music still in 2022. (meaning, a lot of guitar music is dead/dying/stale - but metal is still doing really well)
