That and BYU's lone loss is a road loss to a top-15 team. Even though it was a
blowout it's the sort of loss that is typically easily forgiven. I agree with you, though. Previous years may not have given BYU that benefit of the doubt. I do expect the TCU-Kansas winner to jump ahead of BYU regardless of the result against Notre Dame, though.
