Access to substance use treatment in carceral settings is abysmal.
You are right in that withdrawal can be deadly, this is particularly true for alcohol and benzodiazepine withdrawal; opiate withdrawal (contrary to a medical truism) can also kill.

Withdrawal management in jail is wildly inconsistent. Jail/prison is not a good place to expect treatment, this needs to change in my opinion. It's cruel but unfortunately not all that unusual to NOT have access to substance use treatment while in jail/prison.
