Whittingham's situation is not and never has been the same as Pope's. That isn't the point of the comparison. The point is, that Whittingham represents a different type of personality. He has had lots of money and status thrown at him to get him to jump ship to another program, and he has stayed put, and not just as a Head Coach. He has been with Utah since he became a D1 coach in 1994.
Pope has left for greener pastures to other jobs before. He did it at UVU (a D1 basketball program) when coming to BYU. He was always going to leave BYU if the right school came calling.
