cwilke1 Intervention Needed
I now scouted her a little. I found just one Buffalo women's game from last
season still on ESPN+. Buffalo first round WNIT game against Monmouth. Hattie played 28 minutes and seemed reasonably competent. Its hard to see her being a star at the big 12 level, but it makes sense for her to get a roster spot. Even though she was 1-7 for threes in that game(she scored 5 total points in the game), one was a last second desperation throw at the end of 3Q and two others were in and out. She had one three with a minute in the game left that would have cut it to two, and it spun around the inside of the rim and came out. So she was pretty close to 50% from three on the game.

For the defense, she guarded the 5 position in that game and sagged way back daring the other team's big to shoot even from the free throw line. She seemed to be the tallest player on the court. Going down to the lower tier conferences - perhaps there is less height compared to the top conferences and big 12.

Hattie had 4 steals in the game, and had a knack for timing her reach ins to rip the ball out or force a jump. She could make the open pass - swinging it to the open three point shooter. Once she had it Khalifa-like on the three point range and timed a nice back-door pass to a cutting teammate. She had decent fundamentals about positioning and blocking out, but she seemed to be a poor rebounder about actually going up and rebounding in traffic. She is not generally a shot blocker.

On offense Buffalo had some quick driving guards. Hattie mostly stood around the perimeter while the guards did their thing. Buffalo didn't try posting up. They did a run a few screens for her on occasion to try to get her an open 3.

With being a great three point shooter and having some size, she is an asset. Although its tough to see exactly where she fits. She is probably too short to play that type of 5 at the Big 12 level. She is maybe even like a shorter, slightly quicker version of Calvert. Hattie's probably not quick enough to guard wings well in the Big 12. She is much more fundamentally sound and skilled and smart than Bubukar, but also a lot less athletic than Bubukar is. Body wise she reminds of Marina Mata, although Hattie is a superior three point shooter.
