Added some thoughts to my original post above (edited). But I’ll add some here
1) optionality. Finance gives you a skillset to work in a variety of roles. Obviously it can be very beneficial to the classic investing/banking roles (PE, VC, asset mgmt, IB, etc) but also allows you to excel working in finance roles at businesses (think FP&A, CFO, type stuff). Also from a strategy perspective it’s great, you can become an excellent consultant. This optionality extends to both work life balance and corporate vs entrepreneurship too. Variety roles can allow you to work the classic 40-50 work week and have more time on your hands for family, or if you really want to “grind” and love the fast paced work environment/career advancement there are options there (IB/Consulting). From the entrepreneurial perspective you can have the skillset to found a business, raise a PE/VC fund, invest in real estate, found a consulting firm, etc. or if you want to be big corporate you can work for some of the worlds most respected names.

2) in Marriott school specifically, Finance and Accounting are definitely the most respected and sought after degrees. That translates to employers with BYU connections (members, people in Utah, etc) preferring to hire those specific grads, and high respect from nationwide firms.

3) emphasis on internship/real world experience. I believe more so than any Marriott school major at BYU this is emphasized. Filling up your resume with local and then big names. The program really emphasizes this and has a phenomenal network of resources/alumni that allow students place at amazing gigs, whether in IB, Consulting, Corproate Finance, FP&A, Wealth Mgmt. Etc. We place at all the big names, and punch above our weight class, often placing students in places where historically only Ivy League kids have placed.

Just my thoughts. Happy to answer anything, BM me if you or your son have any questions about finance program in general
