Pete The Hope That Kills You
Had a Chinese family in a ward I served in as a missionary. They were both children of immigrants but born in the US.
The sister would cook us "Chinese" food regularly and took pride in it. They were a great family and would feed us often. She told us how several years before she had an opportunity to go visit her grandmother in China and was so excited to learn new recipes and try new authentic food there. She came back thinking "that was gross" and stuck to the "American" Chinese food she was accustomed to preparing and that everyone around us thought was delicious.
