I think a big part of it was also his change in other options
It's not just that he turned BYU down with Pope and then chose BYU with KY.
A big part of it is that when he turned BYU down it was for Andy Enfield at USC, an option that no longer exists after this spin of the coaching carousel.
If that hadn't changed, it's unlikely we even would have had a second shot at him, regardless of whether we had Pope or KY
