"There is just as much of a chance of Williams busting a long run up the middle as there is of Hill getting the edge."
I think the history of this year thus far doesn't bear that out at all. If anything, it says you put the ball in Taysom's hands. If not at least for the options and tools he has available to him, for his simple "untackleable" ability. Taysom's ability to get to the edge and make people miss is beyond Williams IMHO and it's not close (not that I don't like Jamal, but Taysom makes space where none exists.)
Not sure how you know Hill would have been hit. If he throws it he may take a hit, he might not. If he throws it away (as he has smartly done) not sure how he gets hit and if he takes it out of bounds he doesn't get hit, unless we want a late hit out of bounds.
Not sure on the pass play at Virginia last year. My memory fails me atm.
I'm just not seeing the risk with putting the ball in Taysom's hands vs. Williams and at least from this observer, the potential options and possibilities having it in Taysom's hand are much greater than in Williams. Again, that's just my opinion.
