Yes, it should have been 5 yards for offside, 15 yards for roughing the kicker (still completing momentum of his kick & never passed the 45 yard line) and should have been an ejection even before rules on targeting and defenseless players.
The coach was reinstated after his own school found no evidence of wrong doing despite the coaches comments about trying to distract Hill, wear him down and that it was "<profanity> football" after all. However, he was suspended just last week after verbally abusing his team and after a player from his team ran through the line of scrimmage and hit the opposing QB who had knelt down to end the game.
One of the cheap shot player's friends posted the video online with the caption "One of my good friends at my high school (ben dahl) decided that he was gonna personally take out our cross town rivals STANFORD bound quarterback on the kickoff. just watch this hit. Its <profanity> amazing!"
Local papers in Pocatello had a few other interesting notes about Dahl. Apparently he attempted the same move on all but the last kickoff. He did end up graduating from high school although his girlfriend had their baby before she started her senior year. He looks forward to becoming a Pocatello policeman after a stint in the Army.
