First time I ever really got yelled at for making a mistake in a varsity basketball game was for shooting an open 15 footer that we didn't need. At the time, we needed to run the clock. But I'd been playing well and was confident I'd knock it down and help seal the deal. I missed, I got my butt chewed extensively, and I deserved every word (for the record, I redeemed myself, and we won).
Bronco hiring Howell would have been like me turning around and forcing up a 3 attempt immediately after my first, obvious mistake. Bronco doubled down on his internal hiring practice by betting on a guy with zero relevant experience in a defensive rebuilding year. After the Doman debacle (Brandon's resume was light year's beyond that of Howell), Bronco's decision to do so is particularly mind-boggling.
