It would have been interesting to see how good of a QB Jason Beck could have been if he would have had the chance to start for 2 years. He may have been much better than many would have thought.
How I would have loved to have seen John Beck start for one more year. He had the best streak of 8 games of any BYU QB I've seen since Detmer.
Honestly, I almost put Stewart ahead of Hill. Hill is the kind of QB that you build a team "around" but then when/if he goes down there is no one else that can do what he does so the team is left without a rudder. Once Stewart became comfortable he played very well -- a more prototypical BYU QB than Hill.
Riley wasn't the king of Grit. HALL was the king of BYU Grit. His on the field attitude was closer to McMahon's than any other BYU QB. My only negative thought on Hall was that at times he didn't look for secondary and tertiary receiver options. In a way he was TOO comfortable with and dependent on Collie and Pitta.
Heaps had the physical tools to be much better than he was, but -- Grit factor: -2. Good kid, but his head really wasn't in the game.
Riley? Appreciate his willingness to sacrifice his body but he NEVER should have been more than a back-up or occasional wildcat player. Making Riley the starter was Bronco's biggest career mistake for the good of BYU football. At that point the team would have been better off starting Lark.
