Some friends of ours have been through the ringer in the last week. Kim's mother, Dianna Ball, was battling breast cancer for quite some time. Last Friday the doctors gave her two days to live. She passed away Sunday morning, surrounded by her husband and 9 children. The funeral was on Tuesday in Terreton, ID about 30 miles west of Rexburg. This morning Kim's father was killed in a farming accident when a potato cellar collapsed on him. Adam and Kim just got home (9 hour drive) from the funeral last night and Kim was in the process of unpacking their things when she got the news about her father. Her brother was also involved in the accident, but they think he's going to be okay.
For the father who was killed, I am envious. If my wife were ever to die before me, I wouldn't want to stick around for long. For the family that remains to mourn the sudden loss of both parents, I am devastated. Once we find out when the funeral will be held, we will likely make the trek to Idaho. Fortunately our kids have spring break next week. We had planned to go to the Oregon coast for a few days, but somehow this seems much more important.
