That a great athlete doesn't necessarily make a good coach or a good owner. Why can't business people figure this out as well?
I've seen it over and over where a guy will be a super sales person, then management somehow thinks he'll make a great sales manager. He'll stink it up big time, alienate the sales force and push morale down the toilet.
A guy will be a great program manager and so upper management will put him over sales...and he'll screw things up.
Or a guy will be a great technological mind, so upper management puts him in a position to deal with customers on a daily basis...with disastrous results.
A person might have a keen mind and a natural ability in one area...say, as a researcher for instance, but suffer from other areas of intelligence. Just because a person has a brilliant technical mind doesn't mean that they have even a smidgen of emotional IQ (EIQ).
Why can't management figure out how to get the right people in the right places? For all their advanced management degrees, and number crunching ability, they sure do suck at reading the actual resources available in their office.
