I have a question about Return of the Jedi.
Why did Luke hide his lightsaber in R2-D2 at the beginning when they were going to Jabba the Hutt's palace to rescue Han Solo? What purpose did that serve? Wouldn't it have been easier just to keep the lightsaber and just go in guns a blazing and take everyone out at once? He pretty ended up doing that anyway at the Sarlacc pit, when he finally did get his saber back. If he would have kept his lightsaber in the first place, he would have much more easily dispatched the Rancor monster and everyone else in Jabba's palace without prolonging Han and Leia's agony. The mission would have been over in a few minutes.

Also, what was the point of sending R2-D2 and C3-PO first, only to have them taken prisoner? Why didn't Luke just go himself the first time? Why did Lando have to disguise himself as one of Jabba's guards? That didn't seem to serve a big purpose either. It just seems like the rescue mission was unnecessarily complicated and elaborate. Luke should have just gone in by himself at the very first and negotiated with his lightsaber, and not gotten Leia, Chewie and the droids involved. But, whatever, I guess it made the movie more entertaining.
