No one was sitting In their assigned seats. At least none of the students were. Loudest I ever heard LES (Cougar Stadium back then).
I was on the ESPN broadcast twice as they scanned the crowd.
The Belini TD happened right in front of me. So did the play where the two Miami pass rushers smashed together as Ty stepped out of their attempted future Heisman Sandwich.
It really was an incredible game. Ty was Ty. And just about every other player on the field had incredible games. Defense made plays. I remember the stop on 4th down that was huge.
And I'll never forget Kauffman's punt. BYU had been stopped deep in their own territory in the second half and it looked like Miami was going to get good field position. Kaufman let loose a point that went do high and far that the whole stadium seemed to gasp. The ESPN announcer just said, "Wow!" (My mom taped the game and sent it to me)
Then we rushed the field. It has to be the greatest game ever in LES.
I still get chills and a little emotional thinking about that game.
I was a already a big fan, Being at that game galvanized my fandom. As I've gotten older I'm not near as passionate a fan in other sports, Angels, Ducks, I still root for, but not with the passion I have for BYU.
