the course of his freshman season under Doman/Anae than he did in all his other years combined, IMO. The point is, being an OC and a position coach is way different than just being a position coach. For instance, I've heard from multiple people that Anae hardly did anything with the TE's in his first stint at BYU, despite being the OC/TE's coach. The OC just doesn't have nearly as much time to focus on his position group as a dedicated position coach does.
I'm guessing that Detmer would do a great job as a QB coach under an OC that knows what they're doing (I'm not arguing that person is Grimes, BTW - I'm cautiously optimistic, however)
