The Book of Mormon
Seemed like a good suggestion, even if it was obvious. After that, the list is very long. Long in order to obtain perspective about life, culture, history, etc., and there are probably two books for each event so that you can get both sides of the story (or three, or four...) Example - you could probably read 15 books on the Reformation and not even make a dent.
