The women all seem like they should have been on any mix CD/Starbucks CD/hipster wedding soundtrack that also had Feist, Chairlift, or Frou Frou but I have never heard of any of them. Maybe I should have gone to more hipster weddings in the aughts.
As for Rufus Wainwright, my issue with him is that around when REM retired, some music magazine interviewed him about REM, the effect they had on him, and his favorite REM songs. When he disclosed that his favorite REM songs were their five most popular songs (Everybody Hurts, Losing My Religion, etc), I knew he wasn't a real REM fan, just some guy talking about something he didn't know to get in a magazine. So, being extremely petty and unforgiving, I have dismissed all his work.
(It's not just that you know so many obscure songs, it's the topical range of obscurities! Goth last week, precious songwriters this week, Ian Broudie-produced songs the week before...)
