I'd like to publicly come onto CB and say I am sorry for the lol this morning. I didn't make it clear enough that my lol was (in my mind, though not well represented by my words) directly related to the demise of the Salt Lake Tribune as a publication. I feel bad for anybody who loses their job and I hope those people are able to land on their feet quickly. It was my bad for not being more careful with words.
I still don't like the Tribune and hope they continue to fail, at least so long as they continue to operate the way they do. My main problem with them is their implicit support of their comment boards and the methods they use to moderate them. While the Tribune itself leans antagonistic toward the Church, that is not a reason for me to wish their demise. The comment boards, however, are regularly full of vile, full-fledged anti-Mormon commentary often without direct relation to the articles they are attached to. Moderators there do not enforce their own printed standards of conduct. It is a cesspool that I link directly back to the ownership and management of the paper itself. My opinion, at least.
Jay Drew was often a victim of the headline writers and I wish him well--I think he did an OK job in getting BYU news out there. Gordon Monson should have gone before Jay. Did Ann Cannon keep her job?
Anyhow, I just want to clear that up. I don't like the Tribune, but I am not celebrating people who now have to encounter the stress of finding their next paycheck.
