I just spent a week in NYC & Palmyra, have friends there who live in Manhattan..
... basically wages are exorbitantly higher, chances to do "fun things" are much less due to work expectations, so there's more money to spend when chances arise.
Also most don't take kids, lots of singles and young married live there. Kids push the expenses in NYC through the roof.
