As much as I hate to say this, I think I want Coach Krystkowiak to be fired.
Usually I want the yewts to burn to the ground (figuratively speaking, literalists!). And since I think Coach Krystkowiak is a train wreck and is doing no good for the SNOT, I’d normally root for him to not only be retained, but to get a massive extension.

But after watching his tantrum last night, even I think he is so terrible and such a disgrace, I think he should go. I say that at the risk that someone new could come in and rebuild the program into a powerhouse.

It’s one thing to get fired up at a ref to prove a point and to get your team fired up and to show your players that you’ve got their back. But to slap stuff off the table and then say what he did to the refs, I think that’s pathetic and uncalled for. Why don’t the refs stand up for themselves and eject guys when they act like that?

If this were an isolated incident, then of course he gets a pass and you move on. But he’s thrown several tantrums over the years.

If you add in the fact that he tried to kill the rivalry with BYU and that he is too scared to play Utah State or Weber State (let alone UVU), then he should be gone. BYU hasn’t always been the best at keeping the Rivalry “friendly”, but we’ve never gotten to the point where we’ve wanted to disassociate with them altogether. Rivalries are FUN for the players and for the fans. He has actively made college basketball less fun in the state of Utah.

Strictly speaking his win-loss record is respectable enough that he doesn’t necessarily deserve to be fired based on his merits as a x’s and o’s guy or whatever. But a head coach—especially for a higher-profile program at a higher-profile university—should be more of a man and less of a fake tough guy.

I’m a RIVAL FAN, and even I felt embarrassed for the university and for the fans. Give me Giacoletti or the “nice of you to show up” guy any day of the week. Heck, as frustrating as Dave Rose can be, I’d take him over Krisko every day of the week and ten times on Sunday; he at least shows himself to be a real man who acts like a respectable human being.

I’m sure Coach Krystkowiak is a nice enough guy. And like everyone he has some positive attributes and surely has been a good influence in the lives of others. But those aren’t exclusive or unique attributes in the coaching community.

It’s hard for me to say, but they need to fire the guy.
