I think Utah's traffic is disproportionately bad, relative to its population base
I've lived in a couple of other places with similar metro populations and Utah's traffic is definitely worse. Topography probably is a major factor but I don't think it's the only factor.

The traffic from Provo to Ogden can definitely suck. Our current infrastructure was built for 1980’s Wasatch front.
