Despite his struggles as head coach, I think he has a lot to offer as an assistant.

Was in the same ward as him during one of his coaching stints—served as his first counselor in the EQP. In a stake bb tournament, our ward team had 5 players meaning that we had to play the entire game, every game—great fun. Was excellent to have him as our center and though he’s certainly less agile than he was in college, he could still slam it with ease.

He was very involved with the large group of guys, mostly non-members, who used to come and play pick-up games in our inner-city ward building. He did some pick-up coaching sessions with the guys in between games.

Anyway, not all that is relevant to him potentially being successful at BYU—just hoping he gets the chance.
