If 2 or fewer kids or kids are out of the house, then sedan. Unless you have a ton of stuff you're hauling around regularly. Otherwise rent a van or truck when needed.

If you have a boat, get a truck or SUV.

If you deliberately inconvenience your daily life by buying an SUV rather than van just because you don't want to be seen in a van, know that I am still — ironically — judging you for prioritizing in such a way.
