Basically, when it goes over the upright it is open to the judgement of the official whether
he thinks it was more in or more out. I've seen some called no good when they went over the upright, and obviously the one at UT was called good. I don't know the exact rule--I believe there is one for how the referee is supposed to call that situation. But in the end, it is subject to his judgement on whether or not he feels it was mostly in or mostly out.

One thing is for sure--no one in the stadium or on TV has a better view than the official making that decision. I might be surprised by the call, but I feel like I can never actually question it, because I can never get as good of an angle on it as the ref had.
