I wish they’d come out with a new standard ranking that dictated seed
There are way too many polls and metrics and calculations and rankings that are all too unrelated to one another. The AP poll gets a lot of pub and visibility but actually has no bearing on tournament seedlings.

There has to be a way to aggregate all of the math into a single output that determines seeds. There should be a single ranking that is the source of truth. Use all of the calculations and math you want. Pull things from other polls etc. But then use all of that data to provide a universally accepted ranking that determines your seeding.

Teams 1-4 on that ranking would be the four 1-seeds. Teams 5-8 are the 2-seeds, and so on.

It’s just weird that the AP poll could have BYU at #16 but we could get a 7 seed or worse. In theory, you’d think BYU would be a 4 seed, even though i know that’s not how the AP poll works.

I hesitate saying “BCS” but i imagine it’s something along those lines. On one hand, the BCS was good because at least it was considered the source of truth. It didn’t matter what you were ranked in the AP or coaches polls or other lists. Now, the way they did the calculations was suspect and unclear but my point is that the experts should be able to come up with a standardized ranking system that is the source of truth for college b-ball.
