If you want a more recent player example watch some video on Johnny Dee at USD from a couple years ago. He was a pretty good guard (1st team All-WCC) who was very hard to defend because he was very active and scored in a lot of different ways.
He was tough because he ran his Defenders off of multiple screens and was very quick in catch-and-shoot situations from deep. Also he was a good ball-handler and could penetrate and get to the rim pretty easily.
The fact that Wade didn't quit despite all the adversity he has faced tells me that he is pretty eager and determined to prove himself and is a highly motivated player. He will be a valuable contributor this coming season.
