They take a teams total yards gained, and divided it by the total yards a team could theoretically gain, based on field position at the start of each drive.

Available yards are how many yards from where the drive starts to the endzone.

So if you start a drive on your own 20, you have 80 "available yards" that drive

If you start on the 25, you have 75 yards to gain and you gain at least 53 yards
