At the opening of every 24-Hour-Fitness, they would hold a contest to try and win $24,000. You basically had to make a layup, free throw, 3-pointer, and half courter all within 24 seconds. You could enter your name in every day for a month or two and then they had the drawing. Anyway, my name was drawn and I was chosen along with 3 other guys. You could say these guys were perfect CB material. They were all within the ages of 25-45. They all were decently athletic. There was a big crowd and everyone circled around the court. Anyway, not one of the 3 guys made it past the free throw. It was abysmal.
As for me, I actually trained for the event for a month. My wife and I would both enter my name in the drawing every day. By the time it came around, I was about a 30-40% half court shooter and I thought I had a pretty good chance. They surprised me with two rule changes. One, the half courter was an NBA half courter and I had been practicing on the gym court. They put a tape down about 6-10 feet back from the half court line. Two, no matter how fast you made the other shots, you could only shoot 1 half-courter. Anyway, I drained the layup, free throw, and 3 within 12-14 seconds and had 10 seconds to think about my half courter. I lined it up and knew I had to put some extra juice on it. My shot was true in aim, but I was too amped up, and I hit the backboard right above the rim and missed the front of the rim on the bank.
TL;DR: Average guys who think they can make a basketball shot cannot. Add pressure and Rudy Gobert and you guys are hosed
