All disappointment is the result of unmet expectations. Allow him to be him.
If he is a good dad that is more than enough. We all know how imperfect we are and how hard we can be on ourselves and those we love. There are plenty of good books about putting unrealistic or outright unfair expectations on other people. I have personally failed at this far more than I have succeeded.

“Love them where they are at” is so true. Accept who they are and not what we expect them to be. We don’t have to agree or champion all of their decisions, but the relationship is far more important than temporary missteps. Find a way to truly enjoy the time together with your dad and don’t resent his fandom.

I lost my dad recently. It took being a dad to teenagers and now adults to realize how hard it is to be a dad. I don’t think I was very good at it, but I really did try.
