My son was in band years ago, and his first concert was like this. The middle
school band director made it clear that it was going to sound like this, but that the kids (most of which had started playing those instruments weeks ago) had worked very hard, and it was important for them to practice in front of an audience.
Everybody clapped, and we were proud even though it sounded terrible.
