Stay in the Driskill Hotel. Very "Texas/Austin" themed, and it supposedly has ghosts.

It's a very cool hotel. Right downtown where all the action happens in Austin. I've stayed there frequently and loved it

Parking charge at the hotel. Most places in Austin, however, are free parking, although downtown can be a little tough

Also, try CM Smokehouse. They don't serve bbq, but incorporate smoked meats into everything.
