One man in our ward has six daughters and no sons. He used to go by himself. His
father moved into the ward and they go together.

There have also been boys in our ward who did not have a father to take them, and their home teacher would see if they wanted to go at least to the activities either in the evening or next day.

It is for a time for MEN and BOYS to learn about being MEN. It is one of the few times that happens. It is not a sexist thing. It is not an exclusionary thing. It is a time and place dedicated to male bonding.

Nowadays we have plenty of other coed stuff, and far too few places and opportunities for this to happen.

I have 4 kids. Oldest two are out of the house, daughter and son and they love camping. Two kids at home, daughter and son. Daughter loves camping and fishing, son does not. I take my daughter on a special fishing trip, just me and her. But I will only take my sons to father-sons campout.
