It's been 40 years since Cougar Stadium was expanded to 65,000 seats.
I still remember the old stadium seats on the hill behind the Richards building where it only seated about 5,000 fans. When the new Cougar stadium was built in 1964, it held 30,000. That was where we watched Virgil Carter and Phil Odle generate a new level of excitement for BYU football. Then the expansion under LaVell to 65,000 in 1982.
It's been 22 years since the stadium was renamed after LaVell. What a great moment with President Hinckley (about 9 minutes into the video).
