Ty Jordan was #22 and died. The team started a scholarship in his memory and his best friend on the team (Aaron Lowe) received the scholarship and switched his number to 22 in memory of Ty Jordan. Several months later he was also shot and killed.
Utah retired the number and made the season about 22, talking about being 22% better and doing everything in memory of those two 22s.
Some Utah fans are upset that BYU, when upgrading their sponsor hospitality zone, went and renamed in Club 22 (recognizing 1922 as the first year of BYU football)
