Sounds like the defense was set pretty well. Everyone was in the opposite side of the half court, they picked up their
assignments.
The switch happened and maybe it wasn't supposed to, but the D was set and ready. They weren't scrambling who to guard.
I think your definition of being "set" may be off.

That is the fault of an individual player. Everyone else was ready and knew their assignment. I can't explain anything
